Prof. Andreja Rajkovic from Ghent University will present Imptox-related research and talk about “Microplastics in food safety: from toxicity to shuttle effect”.

This year's CEFood Congress, taking place in Čatež ob Savi, Slovenia from the 27th - 30th of September 2022 is guided by the motto "Food, Technology and Nutrition for Healthy People in a Healthy Environment". 

Imptox scientist, Prof. Rajkovic, who will moderate a round-table discussion, will talk in particular about the potential of microplastics to act as vectors for pathogenic microorganisms, their toxins, and chemical hazards threatening food safety. The role of microplastics in enhancing harmful bacterial traits and transporting them to humans is not yet entirely clear. In that context he will present some initial research findings from Imptox, shedding new light on this phenomenon.
