Prof. Andreja Rajković from UGent to present Imptox research on micro- and nanoplastics and food safety at IAFP Europe 2025 Interactive Marketplace. 

From 6 to 8 May 2025, the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) European Symposium will once again bring together top minds in food safety research, policy, and industry. Since 2005, this event has been a cornerstone for sharing the latest advancements in food science and safety across Europe. Hosted at the Hotel Melia Avenida America in Madrid, Spain, the 2025 edition promises not only plenary sessions and technical discussions but also an exciting addition: the Interactive Marketplace, "A One-Stop Shop for Food Safety Resources from Europe". Taking place on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, from 13:30 to 15:00, the Marketplace will offer participants an informal, dynamic opportunity to explore cutting-edge outcomes and tools developed within EU research projects. Among the projects featured, Imptox will present its work on micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) and food safety, represented by Prof. Andreja Rajković from Ghent University.

Visit the Imptox Stand: Exploring Microplastics and Food Safety Risks

At the Interactive Marketplace, Prof. Andreja Rajković will introduce participants to the Imptox project’s innovative research on the presence and impacts of micro- and nanoplastics in the food chain. While plastic pollution is often visible, the invisible threat posed by MNPs - ranging from micrometre- to nanometre-sized particles - is increasingly recognised as a potential concern for food safety and human health. 

Visitors to the Marketplace will have the opportunity to discuss with Prof. Rajković how Imptox’s findings contribute to broader food safety research while browsing other EU project stands in a relaxed, interactive environment. Every market-stand holder will briefly pitch their project at the start of the Marketplace, after which attendees can explore stands, engage in discussions, and exchange ideas.
