Micro/Nanoplastics Under the Microscope: Imptox Scientist Invited to ACS Fall Meeting 2025

The ACS Fall Meeting 2025 will host a symposium on micro- and nanoplastics in food, and Imptox scientist, Prof. Andreja Rajkovic from Ghent University has been invited to contribute his expertise.

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall Meeting 2025 is set to take place as a hybrid event in Washington, D.C., from August 17th to 21st. Recognized as one of the world’s most influential scientific organizations, the ACS has been advancing chemistry and its applications since 1876. This global community, now over 152,000 strong, gathers twice a year to share cutting-edge research and ideas that benefit science and society.

At its next Fall Meeting, the Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (AGFD) will host a pivotal symposium titled Micro/Nanoplastics in Food: Prevalence, Detection, and Toxicity. As plastic waste fragments into tiny micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), concerns grow over their presence in our food and water. The symposium will explore the sources, detection, and potential health impacts of MNPs, alongside regulatory challenges and mitigation strategies. It promises a comprehensive look at this rapidly evolving field, highlighting both current knowledge and critical gaps.

As part of the program, Prof. Andreja Rajkovic, a renowned scientist from Ghent University and a researcher within the EU-funded Imptox project, has been invited to participate in the symposium. This invitation underscores the relevance of Imptox’s work in addressing the challenges posed by MNPs. Focused on studying how these particles interact with allergens, food and human health, Imptox contributes significantly to advancing detection methods and understanding exposure and potential risks.

The ACS Fall Meeting 2025 is more than just a conference - it is a platform where science meets action, inspiring collaborations that tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges. With abstract submissions for the symposium open until March 31st, 2025, researchers are encouraged to share their findings and insights. Submit your abstract here to join the conversation and shape the future of MNP research.
